About this piece
Sozni is needle work, not weaving: floss silk laid into pashmina with a needle fine enough that the stitch sinks into the ground and all but disappears. This shawl is do-rukha — worked so both faces are finished, with no visible reverse. The chinar leaf runs as a vine along the length rather than repeating as a motif, which means the embroiderer cannot batch the work; each leaf is placed relative to the last.
